Illinois 68 between Prairie Lake Road and IL 62 Algonquin Road
Kane County and Cook County, Illinois
The scope of services for this project consisted of the preparation of construction documents comprised of plans, specifications, estimates, quantities, and details for the improvements to IL 68 from Prairie Lake Road to IL 62 (Algonquin Road) in Kane County and Cook County, IL. DB Sterlin prepared plans that included roadway engineering, drainage engineering, and utility coordination. Furthermore, construction staging and maintenance of traffic concepts were developed to ensure that at least one lane of traffic in each direction was open at all times. All documents were prepared in accordance with IDOT standards. In addition, a full topographic survey was conducted for the entire mainline as well as the crossroads. The survey work was extended 50 ft. beyond the edge of pavement of IL 68 at the crossroads. The sewer structures were opened and inspected to assess condition, determine the offset, and the construction material. Also, a complete sign inventory was performed and included all the signs within the survey limits. The existing right-of-way was assumed to be 100 feet wide. The triple box culvert located within the project limits was also surveyed and the inverts were collected.
The proposed improvement to IL 68 consisted of pavement milling and resurfacing, new 4’ paved shoulders with rumble strips, guardrail removal and replacement, replacement of outdated guardrail terminal sections, and pavement markings. IL 68 runs through the Spring Creek Valley Forest Preserve from Bateman Road to Old Sutton Road. The length of the improvement was approximately 3.2 miles.
